Abstract Aim Nail bed injuries are the commonest paediatric hand injuries. Optimal management is essential to restoring form and function of nail fingertip, however high-level evidence injury lacking, leading large discrepancies in clinical practice. This paper evaluates 100 most cited papers analyses their study characteristics assess current research focus levels. Method A Web Science search was carried out using term “nail injury”. All article types were included, no language or publication date restrictions applied. Results ranked by overall citation number. abstracts screened for relevance top eligible studies analysed type, main theme, journal, year publication. Result The three common included retrospective (n = 33), literature reviews 25), case reports/series 20). themes evaluation repair techniques 72), aetiology epidemiology 12), anatomical assessments 7). frequently represented journals include Journal Hand Surgery 30), Plastic Reconstructive 7) Clinics 4). Conclusions influential those describing techniques. There remains a lack high level with presenting 3-5 evidence. demonstrates continued need more higher robust field
